Interesting - looks by its overall appearance like a BMC Farina (MG/Riley).
But BMC Farina details do not match. Number plate surround and position (it would be lower below the bumper to allow access to the starting handle) and rear window is too rounded.

Cannot think what it could be.

I think it's a bit more rounded. Could it be a Singer SM 1500 or Hunter?

SM1500 1948+, I think. The Hunter had a more prominent grille resembling that of the earlier Super Twelve.

I think I agree about it being slightly more rounded, DynaMike. But not a Singer I believe.

The grille is too squat and is wider than a Singer Hunter's, and the SM 1500 was wider at the bottom.

A Singer SM 1500...

edit: Looking at the unknown car again the windscreen is moderately curved unlike the Singer SM 1500 which is flat or almost flat. So mid to late 1950s I guess.

OK I have to agree after looking for any other alternative, it must be a Singer SM 1500. :king:

The edges of what I thought was the grille must be something else. By removing them and changing the brightness slightly it looks more like the Singer.

My apologies to DynaMike and Chris40 for doubting your identification... Singer SM 1500.

No need for apologies, Sunbar! Thanks for making the picture a bit lighter. Like this it is (a bit) better visible. I always liked the plain and smooth design of the Singer SM 1500 :)

I agree, Sunbar: no need to apologise. I think you might have been misled by the way the light catches the curvature of the front panel; makes it look like a Rover or Farina MG grille [:computer]

Large rear window: at least a 1953

PTD or PYD plate - both mid-53. Does not have Oct 53+ larger grille with bars extended outwards to sidelights.
