I would like to share something about the story of this colour, introduced in early 1972 for the 128 (sedans and wagons, Rally included, but not the coupés) and the 124 sport coupé, whit the plain name of "Verde Chiaro" (Light Green) and the code 304. As a matter of a fact the 128 sedans and the 124 coupé shared most of the colors for the simple fact that they were the only cars (with a brief exception of the 850 sport coupé) produced not in Mirafiori (the greatest Fiat factory in Torino), nor in Lingotto, but in Rivalta where a brand new factory had been opened in late 1968 (closed long ago). This color was deleted in the 128s in late 1975 and survived for a few months longer till the demise of the 124 coupé in march 1976. It had a huge success on the 128 sedan family in 1972, but in the years after it became less and less popular, especially at the time of the 128 Special, which was available in this shade for about 16 months only. Well, I remember three such cars (128 Specials 4 door in "verde chiaro code 304"), one ( a 1100 cc) was driven ny a Jordanian student in the late 80s attending the University of Turin, and quite recently I spot a very nice and well kept 1300 cc near Torino. The very first one I can remember i linked to a fact that is History here in Torino. It was used by an Italian terrorist group action (by the "Prima Linea" group if I remember well) that wounded a previous major of a conservative party in this town in the spring of 1979 and for a case, during a break while I was studying in my last high school year, I saw the scene by far just looking by a wide window in the room where I was stydying. What I really saw was the car and some men approaching ther victim (which survived) with guns and the strange fact is that I was not able to recognize such items as weapons untill I heard the shot. They rather looked like silvered branchs of a tree. -- Last edit: 2025-01-19 18:39:55 |
