G-MANN ◊ 2006-08-16 14:17	My dad had a 1982 520i (Y-reg) that was the same colour as this one, though the wheels were different. He sold it in 1995, by then it was pretty shagged out (and this was 5 years before this film), it had a hole in the petrol tank so he could only fill it half full, the odometer had stopped, and the seats (camel coloured fabric upholstery) had worn away to the foam stuffing, none of our cars have gotten to that state except this one (doesn't say much for the quality of BMW interiors at that time) and we've not had a car from a brand as "prestigious" as BMW since, we've had Fords, Vauxhalls, Fiats and Hondas, although it was the oldest car (in terms of age when we got rid of it) we've kept. In the film one of the characters says "Who is going to mug two black guys holding guns, sitting in a car that's worth less than your shirt?" He probably wasn't exaggerating. But it wasn't a bad car in it's day. It's just funny to me how sought after BMWs are in Britain, when the one we had became a real beater. -- Last edit: 2006-08-19 13:33:04

Mine is now on it's 2nd (not including the original). The 2nd had no rot just started leaking from the bottom. Cloth interior is not the greatest for durability. Vinyl is the best. My 533i has leather and it's in beautiful shape for being 22 years old, and having 185,500 mi. Leather will last if you treat it with conditioner once or twice a year. Old BMW's can be very nice - IF, they are taken care of properly - if not, they can be as ratty as any other car. My classic is used everyday for the past 9 years, and has won a BMW show, a photo-contest, and most recently made it into the BMW Car Club of America magazine.
