I presume being RHD that this one is Slough-built? Maybe pre-war?? |

If the registration is original, it is about 1950/51 and is, I think, a 15/6 and not a 11. What is bugging me is that the Slough built cars had all plated grilles, and not as shown in the picture. We had, at home, a 1940 Slough built 12, which had Michelin Pilote wheels and radial ply Michelin "X" tyres, huge P100s and a rally sign post lamp on the driver's A-pillar. It also had two large Lucas spot lights, and Ace wheel discs. To say the least, it was a bit special. I loved it even though I was only seven when it went, in favour of a Morris Oxford! Quelle dommage. |

I suspect that some effort has been made to disguise this car's Slough origins; I don't remember Slough TAs having wavy bumpers or Marchal headlights. Maybe the grille has been treated too. |

Apart from the RHD it looks in every detail as a 1949-1952 French-built 11 B (Normale). Not a Slough-built. |

Forget the 15/6 comment, I think it is what was called in Britain a Big 15, i.e. Onze Normale. |

I was right to be confused by the apparent French look but RHD. It would be interesting to know the story behind this one. In the '70s my brother had a (NZ new) 1947 Slough Light 15 (short boot and holey wheels)- it was a nice car. A revelation in cornering when there wasn't much else around that was front wheel drive. -- Last edit: 2008-07-17 09:03:21 |

It coild be a Traction Avant |

That's rather obvious, but that was not a model name, just a global designation of various Citroën models of that era |

This car is a Paris built, right hand drive which was made as a special order for a French diplomat. The Paris factory made a number of right hand drives to special order and as can be seen from the picture is externally a French model with the curved bumper. I don't know whether the interior was a cloth upholstery with a painted dash or a Slough built interior with connolly hide seats and a wooden dash. If you look at www.citroenet.org.uk and then Slough built cars, traction avants, on the last page you will see this car with the number plate in your picture. |

Hi there I owned a 1947 Traction Avant Paris built with right hand drive in South Africa, and an uncle of mine owned one as well. After the war, if you ordered a Traction or Light 15 you might find a Slough built car or even a RHD Paris car at the docks in Cape Town....you might have ordered a big 6 and found that a big 15 was delivered, which had happened to a fellow member of the Crankhandle Club in Cape and believe me, you took what you got! Cos there was a waiting list of people with first refusals. I also owned a 1949 Slough built Light Fifteen that some lucky person had ordered and actually had delivered by Atalanta, the Citoen agent at the time...now I drive a lovely grey Charleston 2cv |
