This scene was a reenactment of the attempted murder of former NSW Police Drug Squad Undercover Detective Sergeant Michael "Mick" Drury who was shot through the window of his family home at Chatsworth, NSW by Christopher Dale "Rent-A-Kill" Flannery on the night of the 6th June 1984. It was alleged at the time that Drury was offered a bribe by Rogerson to have the charges of a drug dealer and a associate of Chris Flannery, Alan Williams dropped as Williams was arrested by Drury months earlier, but Drury refused to take the money. So Williams and allegedly Rogerson got Flannery to kill Drury. After Drury's shooting, Alan Williams fled to the Northern Territory where he was caught, while Rogerson was charged with the attempted bribing of Drury. Drury's shooting also led to Flannery's downfall and his disappearance (and his suspected murder). It was believed that the older members of the Sydney Underworld were responsible for Flannery's disappearance as Flannery was bringing unnecessary attention to himself and on other criminals. It was even believed that Flannery's associate, Laurence Pendergast who disappeared from his home in Heidelberg West, Victoria on the 23rd August 1985 had arrived in Sydney to find those responsible for Flannery's suspected murder and was killed in a pre-emptive strike to prevent him from getting his revenge. -- Last edit: 2022-06-20 14:25:48 |
