I know this is a terrible picture, but the driver is murdered in the car and this is the best capture I could get.

This scene was the reenactment of the murder of Victor Peirce who was shot as he was sitting in his car parked just across from the Coles supermarket in Bay Street, Port Melbourne on the night of the 1st May 2002.

Peirce was the sixth son of former brothel madam and the matriarch of the infamous Pettingill Crime Family, Kath Pettingill and was also the younger half brother of drug dealer, and murderer, Dennis Allen.

Known as "Mr. Death" or "Mr. D", Dennis Allen was a major drug dealer in Melbourne throughout the 1970s and 1980s who ran his drug dealing empire from his three houses located next to one another in Stephenson Street, Richmond, Victoria, he was also suspected in at least 13 murders and was suspected of being behind the bombing of the Melbourne Coroner's Court in the early hours of the 11th May 1985.

On the day of the bombing, the Melbourne Coroner's Court was scheduled to hold a coronial inquest later in the day regarding the death of prostitute and heroin addict, Helga Wagnegg died from a "hotshot" of heroin allegedly given by Allen at his home on the night of the 12th November 1984.

It was suspected that Allen had believed that Wagnegg was talking with the police about Allen's criminal enterprise after she was arrested for drug possession, after her death, it was believed that Allen dumped Wagnegg's body in the Yarra River, located not far from Allen's home.

Allen later died from heart failure in St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne on the 13th April 1987 from years of drug abuse.

After Allen's death, Victor Pierce's criminal career took a serious turn, between late 1987 and early 1988, Pierce and his gang, known as the "Flemington Crew" had committed four bank robberies throughout Melbourne.

On the afternoon of the 11th October 1988, Peirce's friend and member of the Flemington Crew, armed robber Graeme Jensen was shot and killed by members of the Victoria Police Armed Robbery Squad in an attempt to arrest him for the murder of Armaguard security officer, Domenic Hefti who was shot during a robbery at a Coles Supermarket in Brunswick, Victoria on the morning of the 11th July 1988.

It was believed that in revenge for Jensen's death, Pierce and other members of the Flemington Crew consisting of Pierce's brother, Trevor Pettingill, Peter McVoy, and Jedd Houghton had shot and killed police officers, Constables Steven Tynan and his partner, Constable Damian Eyre as they were checking out a stolen car abandoned in Walsh Street, South Yarra, Victoria in the early hours of the 12th October 1988.

When Peirce and his gang were acquitted of the officers' murder in 1991, the Victoria Police Communication Centre, D24 sent out a special broadcast of the verdict to all Victoria Police officers and detectives on duty with a message urging them to contain and control their anger and reframe from carrying out any acts of retribution.

The crime reporter for the Age, John Silvester called Victor Peirce's murder as "karma" as at the time of Peirce's murder, Peirce's vehicle was a late model Holden Commodore, in the Walsh Street Police Killings, Peirce's associate and car thief, Gary Abdullah had stolen an earlier model of Commodore used to set up Constable Tynan and Constable Eyre.

Abdullah himself was later shot by police on an unrelated criminal matter on the 9th April 1989 and later dying of his wounds on the 19th May 1989.
