@andrepa: this gas station is from the 30ies. |
◊ 2012-06-12 21:21 |
Not from the 1960's style gas pump |
◊ 2012-06-12 21:24 |
Yes, the pump is much newer, but the building is from the 30ies. |
◊ 2012-06-13 01:24 |
Oh I didn't read the sentence completely |

yeap! even the T in a ring on the top is genuine and look at the patina on concrete travelled to Munich with my father in 1987 was quite astonished how much relicts of that period where still in use then! -- Last edit: 2012-06-15 23:52:40 |

Mmhhh, the T-sign is rather post-war, as this is usually illuminated (@rjluna2: with bended neon-tubes). |
◊ 2012-06-15 23:55 |
possibly the logo T in circle was created before war, and furtherly developed into illuminated sign, but bended neon tubes where used since early 20ies. here you´ll find the first Reichsautobahn Tankstelle and the T in circle allready on Top http://www.geschichtsspuren.de/artikel/34-verkehr/138-tankstellengeschichte.html it was alight blue sign with white neon tube in the middle -- Last edit: 2012-06-16 00:06:49 |

on this site i found that on RAB any advertising of oil company was forbiden, furthermore astandart sign has to be used the neon illuminated T http://www.hs-merseburg.de/~nosske/EpocheII/va/e2v_rab4.html |

Though it was a creation of the 20ies and seen on some architecture-photos back then, neon tubes weren't used in the late 30ies and in the 40ies in Germany. Imported materials were neccessary, plus the bad image of modern American style, any -most important- not "kriegswichtig". And not to forget, that during the war nearly all kind of lightings were forbidden. Not only headlights of vehicles had to be covered, the people had also to cover their windows at home with black cardboard. Plus it was forbidded to waste any energy. Oh, just found by searching in the net: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luftschutzlampe and http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bienenkorbglimmlampe#Geschichte @rjluna2: Well, though its very near, I haven't already visited it: Link to "www.derwesten.de" I hve to do that... P.S. A little footnote about the 40ies Autobahn: the stairhouse of the Rasthof Hermsdorfer Kreuz was designed by my grandmother P.S. II: I cannot find anything now about the demolished Rasthof Bad Eilsen at the A2. Wasn't that from the early 40ies, too? -- Last edit: 2012-06-16 00:34:29 |

@Ingo with no doubt what we find in the net today is often glossy vision, of what was intended by architects, and not implemented but i really wonder, when they put the T on the roof of this Munich Tankstelle, as the gutter looks authentic too, and why should they fulfill a 30ies rule of design after the war, when oil companies signs get in use allready? the drive in Currybude i have heard of, is the minimalistic prototype of 50ies architecture with its eliptical shape and white tiles as a H0 modeler i scratchbuilt such a building cause there are no manufacturers. small world, recently i was concerned with design of Rasthof Hermsdorfer Kreuz cause it is still in it´s original condition today taking my hat off -- Last edit: 2012-06-16 01:04:42 |

Bad Eilsen is related to "Fürstenwalde" Type on forum http://www.geschichtsspuren.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9223 : Die Lage einer Tankstelle, Raststätte, ggf. Autobahmeisterei in einem Autobahndreieck oder in einer Auffahrt war früher nicht ungewöhnlich, zB Fürstenwalde, Bad Eilsen (abgerissen), Recklinghausen-Hohenhorst (am Kreuz Recklinghausen, immer noch da),... what about establishing IMGasStationDB -- Last edit: 2012-06-16 00:59:11 |

Elegant buildings of gas station near Breslau intersection (today Bielany Wrocławskie) exists still. Photo from 30s and today. Google view here. AFAIK, the station is under local 'Guardianship of Relics' office control and exists despite modern safety rules, exceptionaly. Today nobody builds (or use even!) gas station located few meters from highway. |

Oh, wow! I see you found the side blackout light. We have similer thing in our market during the war. Now, I need to find it somewhere at the internet that I visited some time ago. Here is a member at the lighting gallery posted a page at the site: Osram Luftschutzlampen (for air-raid-protection) |

It's even forbidden to rule gas stations inside or close nearby residental houses. The few left overs have a special permission. |

Tough it's located in mine and my wife's birth town, I must admit, that I never have filled up gas there http://www.alte-tankstelle.de/ It's the oldest still running. |
◊ 2012-06-16 23:08 |
No. It's already demolished. Since 2 years, I think. It's on my way to the office Well, we have traces already here. About the buildings, the pumps and -very depressing- about the prices. -- Last edit: 2012-06-16 23:10:50 |

Nice I must admit, that I've never seen such one in real life. |
