Or Albion? Better view of the front, please ... ;)

OK, then: IIRC AECs were mostly heavier (Mammoth Major, etc.) and Albions weren't popular south of the Border ... I'd suggest Leyland Beaver, which would be about 13-17 tons GVW. Comments?

I would agree "Leyland" must be the most probable.

Or Buffalo or Bison?!

Possibly, dudley, although I'd have said it was smaller than either. AFAIK the Beaver was the smallest model to use the 'ergonomic' cab; even some of the Bathgate-cabbed models were heavier. It may, however, be safest to leave it as Leyland unknown.

Tricky, this one.

I wouldn't rule out Albion just by region -- it could be a delivery of boxes full of Glenmorangie or Bruichladdich ;) -- but by the missing logo. Only the Albion had a logo on the radiator grille and the small picture shows that this particular spot is too dark for a logo being there.

Still the question: Leyland or AEC?

Possible AEC could be the Mercury TGM4 or Marshal TGM6. The rather long wheelbase matches the Mercury better.

On the Leyland side it could be the Super Comet.

The 'Ergomatic' cab is of the pre-facelift style, which was used until around 1971, as far as I know. The chromed bumper can also be found on all three brands, but most often on AEC trucks. This could be a hint or simply the fact that more AEC of that age survived.

The tank is of the big, drum-shaped style, again found on all variants.

To sum it up, most likely AEC Mercury TGM4 with a rating of 40 % and runner up Leyland Super Comet with 39.5 %. 20 % for different chassis (and thus names) of either AEC or Leyland, and 0.5 % for an Albion with missing badge.

Either we decide on one name, or we use the name of the head company, Leyland, no model name and 'Ergomatic cab' in the Extra Info field.

What do you say?

I can't see in the thumbnail any evidence of the prominent triangular AEC badge above the grille. I've more than half convinced myself I can see the Leyland lettering at the bottom [:computer] ... I'll go along with Super Comet as an alternative to Beaver, but I still think Leyland unknown will have to serve.

I made myself believe that this darkish blob above the grille could be a shadow cast by the AEC badge ... [Image: sherlok.gif]

But before we strain our eyes too much (and the others call the doctors at the loony bin for discussing the shade of single pixels) let's take Leyland 'Ergomatic cab'.
