![]() Useless info: I could be entirely wrong but since we never got OnStar until 2020 (nor XM/Sirius Radio period), i don't think we ever had those antennas on our locally sold models. Anyone here who's knowledgeable on GM's full size SUVs? -- Last edit: 2023-04-06 02:30:29 |

It has two-tone paint, which was only available for 2000 and 2001 on the USDM Yukon/Yukon XL and 2000-only on the Tahoe and Suburban. Kind of a rare option too, at least for our market. I always thought these looked nice with the two-tone. As for the OnStar/XM antennas. I know the Mexican market Tahoes, Suburbans, and Yukons did not have them. So, I'd have to believe they probably weren't equipped on models bound for the Middle East either. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius_XM wiki says areas served are USA and Canada, could be a reason .. -- Last edit: 2023-03-25 20:35:15 |

Correct, SiriusXM only serves the U.S. and Canada. The signal does travel into parts of Mexico as well (Tijuana, for instance), but the service is not officially marketed there, and new vehicles sold in Mexico are not equipped with the proper modules (nor the antennas) to pick up the signal. |

The driver's side antenna (green) is the one for OnStar, and the passenger's side (red) is for XM Satellite Radio. Back in 2003-2005, when dual antennas were used, Sirius and XM were competing companies. They merged in 2008. On 2006 and newer models, the two antennas were combined into a single "sharkfin" unit. Interestingly enough, the older vehicles from the Sirus and XM days can still pick up SiriusXM signal today. However, these vehicles are from before OnStar went to a digital signal, and can no longer receive OnStar signals or service. |

Dumb question but are the shark fins on 2015+ models also an "OnStar/SiriusXM" antenna with a separate one for the FM radio? Or what exactly? |
|
◊ 2023-03-25 22:54 |
Yes, the sharkfin is for OnStar, SiriusXM, GPS (for Navigation), and if equipped, WiFi. The AM/FM antenna is embedded into the rear glass on the hatch/liftgate. |

Really wish SiriusXM was listenable here... When I was doing road trips in the States about a decade ago with a Hertz rental all I'd listen to (if I got sick of the Top40 channel, which was fairly often) were the oldies channels, which had a pretty decent selection of songs. Here, the closest thing to a radio station that isn't 80% talk shows and ads are the Armed Force Network, which is practically a Top40/PSA station for GIs... -- Last edit: 2023-04-05 18:49:11 |
