![]() Not definitive. It looks like it’s a two door, with suicide front doors. There is a vertical stripe below the rear window. Trafficator? BTW, not an Invicta Black Prince, nor a MkV Jag. I think it is more likely a Bentley than a Royce, but seems to have pierced wheels. Back later! -- Last edit: 2023-02-25 18:44:44 |

Good call! I think you've got it (unless there's something completely different with similar features) - 1946-51 Jensen PW saloon - only made as 4dr saloon (15 or 16 built) and 2 dr DHC (2 made) - no FHCs, but I think the pic is a 4 dr saloon with rear quarterlight. As far as I can check, pre-war big Jensens had running boards integrated into front wing curve - only the PW (standing for Post-War - clearly car names were being rationed due to austerity) had this chopped style of wing end butting up to plank-like running board. |

I'm no expert on these, but the proportions don't look right to me. |

That’s because it wasn’t meant to be the same car, since these coachbuilt vehicles were only built in twos and threes, just an illustration for further discussion. |

Yes, dsl, the problem was to find a body with the pontoon front wings, what does concern me is the full spat. I could not find a body with a full spat that didn’t have the front wing blended into the back. I did also go through what I had on Derby Bentleys from 1936 on, no dice but my info is not so special prewar. |

@John, don't know if this is of any help, but here is a link to a better quality image |

^^ Daimler? Thanks for the improved image. It may be a big, just postwar, coachbuilt Daimler Straight eight. -- Last edit: 2023-02-25 22:33:02 |

Try 1947/8 Bentley Mk.VI 2-door FHC by Freestone & Webb, my book says 2 built - chassis B281BG for Prince Veranund of Siam (who after WW2 served in RAF and kept the car at Weybridge Automobiles) and B288BH delivered to Stewart Granger. My book has 2 b&w pics of B281BG (front & rear quarters) - single colour, mid-tone, MPB 840 plate and GB plaque. Looks very good match - pontoon wings, heavy B-pillar, small slitty rear window, flamboyant curved rear wing with spats, cabin and general proportions and the clincher for me at least the beltline curving up at front of door under the quarterlight. However the problem is googling Bentley MPB 840 and B281BG comes up with this DHC without spats in a 2011 listing, but described as ex-Prince Varanand of Thailand, so presumably same car but now chopped so needs original period pics to make the connection. Or my book's got the wrong chassis no. and consequent back story. Granger's B288BH - now registered SMH 311 and black over cream - has different curved rear side window and added side chrome, but otherwise looks fairly similar. To summarise - I think my book pics with MPB 840 plate have nailed it, but whether it's really B281BG is up for grabs; if it can be established that B281BG was later attacked by a tin-opener it should all fit neatly into place; MPB series was Surrey, so would match Weybridge connection. B288BH shows enough commonality to make the F&W FHC connection but doesn't fit the exact permutation. |

Try RRX551. B281BG had the roof removed according to Bernard L King. I discounted B288BH, and don’t have a picture of the B281BG. The F & W entry in my coachwork book completely ignores these two cars, preferring to show the awful design 3046 complete with front wheel spats. However I am happy to support this suggestion, well done! -- Last edit: 2023-02-26 09:06:00 |

When you see the whole thing, I’m afraid to say that it’s not very elegant. |
