It looks like a customized 1937 Lincoln Zephyr 3-passenger Coupe.

Just a thought, I was wondering what's the earliest period 'cutomized' car on the site? (by period I mean customized actually in the time of the film, Not a film made in 2008 with a custom ford model T from 1915.! ;) ) ..and Not including specialized European coachbuilders (too many to list.!)
I would think this Lincoln is quite early for a modified/custom road car? (..not racing either.! :) )

Thanks alot Chris40 ;) Great info. I read up to page 17 & from what they're saying this car would fit in as one of the early 'Custom' cars (As before the late 30's, there were only open tops, with what they'd class as 'Hot-rod' type cars)
and according to what he's written, much of the credit for these 'custom' cars would go to Carson Top Shop in LA (they were doing custom work in the late 30's)
I'll have to get this book for a proper read.
Cheers

chris, stronghold: if you're looking for pictures of early customs, try these:
http://www.rikhovingkustoms.com/RHK1/Home.html
http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/beautiful_custom_cars/
You'll find some of the pictures showing in that book, plus lots more.
