I think this might be a kit car, it just doesn't look quite right

Definitely not a real Bentley. The panel cutlines are all wrong, and the size of the fender between the door and the front wheelwell suggests a front wheel drive base (and firmly rules out Mustang). The windshield shape is a hardpoint that probably is not changed from the original car, and may be the key to ID.

There are companies that sell kits similar to this, though I didn't find an exact match for this one; the most popular base seems to be the Chrysler Sebring Convertible.

Sounds familiar... we know that concept from the Neo Classic world, where used cars reincarnate as 'Excalibur', equipped with fiberglass hardware by 'Whodunit & Sons'. And just like in those cases, we might never know what actually happened, unless we have the opportunity to interview the exact car. I also tried to research a bit and subsequently decided to un-research all that jazz again, because no chance!

Will "Bentley Continental GTC Replica on Chrysler chassis" or something alike do the job? I think that's better than leaving them among the totally unknowns or 'custom mades' (= unknown de luxe), only to be found again if the original poster (thanks @Geisterjaeger!) happens to drive by and remembers it! Opinions/ decisions welcome!

Yes, that's how we usually do it:
for cars that look somewhat convincing, [intended make and model] + Replica + "on xxx chassis" (if known)
for really bad replicas, [made for movie] or [custom made] as make + [intended make and model] as model
