Surprisingly, I can't find any trace of this coachbuilt beauty anywhere online. It's not a Crayford as they didn't do Vivas before HB. July 65+ orange indicators and it's saloon-based, not a chopped van/Beagle. And it can go over speedbumps without bending in the middle, so must be reasonably well built.

Likely to be a one-off conversion I guess? I had a look at the I>Player episode and nothing to say if it has a functioning hood, or how any rear side glasses could be achieved.

The Vauxpedia website shows that Vauxhall did make a single HA Viva Convertible but this is not it as it had a slimmer glass frame on the doors and fixed quarter-lites.

The only reason for Vauxhall to do the styling exercise was probably it gave them the opportunity to convert a two-door model; the Victor, Velox and Cresta all being four-doors a far less easy base for a convertible. However the convertible HA Viva was never going to be a proposition for production either at Luton or by an approved coachbuilder. In the first couple of years sales of the saloon were better than expected both in the UK and for export/CKD and adding a convertible would only add to supply problems.

The rough appearance looks somewhat familiar. We have many Cadillac "convertibles" on the site that - at some stage of their midlife crisis - decided to get rid of their roof and start a new life as fresh sun worshipper. On many occasions the converters followed the old recipe. You need: An angle grinder, a folding ruler, some rubber material to cover the cutting edges, possibly a lot of alcoholic substances in advance - ka-blamo! You don't need a cloth top as it's not raining anyway, but it's still fine if you have one.

The loooong rest of the windshield frame and lastly the livery suggest how seriously this was taken...

dsl a écrit And it can go over speedbumps without bending in the middle, so must be reasonably well built.

However it may be significant that no-one attempts to open the doors during the sequence ....
