Chassis #CSX2130. But how to list it? Some pages online refer to it as Shelby Cobra, some as AC Cobra.. https://www.ultimatecarpage.com/chassis/1657/AC-Shelby-Cobra-Le-Mans-CSX2130.html https://www.flickr.com/photos/ipon1/26613034680 |

"...“Shelby American Cobra” was the name under which the model was homologated by the FM, an unfair disregard for AC’s contribution, especially so in my subject’s case, for 39 PH was built and prepared at the Thames Ditton factory for the 1963 Le Mans 24 hours. Carroll Shelby’s organisation provided it with a fairly low powered engine, AC entered it, the Sunday Times (in better times) sponsored it and Ninian Sanderson/Peter Bolton drove it, the team being managed by Stirling Moss. They finished seventh overall at an average speed of 108 m.p.h. behind no less than six Ferraris, all led home by the Scarfiotti/Bandini 250p...." Link to "www.motorsportmagazine.com" Make of that what you will. I would go for AC. |

CSX2131 (39 PH) was an AC built RHD 289 built for 1963 Le Mans factory team (along with LHD CSX2142, registered 645 CGT), then sold in 64 to Jack Willment - history here which states "the Middlesex outfit [= Willment] acquired CSX2130 two months later (another right-hand drive Competition Roadster that had been used as a prototype for the Le Mans racers)..". The red/white livery is Willment team. -- Last edit: 2022-06-22 03:35:47 |
