I still don't know how to tell the difference between Crown and Custom series, other than the fact that a convertible wasn't availabe as a Custom. This has the "Flite-Sweep" rear deck ornamentation. By this time, "Chrysler" was only the parent company and should not appear in brand identification. The change occured sometime in 1955 or 1956. -- Last edit: 2008-04-02 10:32:38

I have seen that, if the V detail above headlights is 'empty' the Imperial will be Custom but if between the two 'arms' of the V you see 'something, that is a golden crown that makes the car Crown.
