Should this come up in a search for "A40 Farina"? :-) |

it is not really a Farina... since we label the cars with the name that they have in the country where the movie is made. Like the Renault 5 that is listed as LeCar for the US movies. -- Last edit: 2006-01-26 00:47:34 |

OK, thanks. What about vehicle type? Innocenti is classed as Supermini for example. |

I quote from "The Unofficial Austin-Rover Webresource" (a magnificent site! www.austin-rover.co.uk): "Although the Futura name was primarily chosen for the Swedish market (not only to suggest a futuristic car, but also to avoid confusion with the Swedish word 'farin', meaning castor sugar), the car was also sold as the A40 Futura in Denmark." I suppose it's called "Farina" to avoid confusion with the pre-farina Cambridge A40, but I doubt it if it ever was an official addition to the model name. -- Last edit: 2006-04-03 13:34:18 |

Now here is a bright futura....:) |

How do I set more than one country at 'Made for: ...'? The 'Futura' name was used in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. |

you can't. And it is not useful I think: this one was made for Sweden. Even if it was also made for other countries, this info is less important and can be put in comments. Previously we were not putting (S/DK/N) in the "extra info", just (S). -- Last edit: 2006-08-14 16:08:16 |

Not really, as Futura was used officially, Farina is only a nickname. |

Although the car was always referred to as the A40 Farina in UK to avoid confusion not only with the Cambridge, but the Devon, Dorset and Somerset models BMC did not use the name in their advertising. I have in front of me a 1961 advertisement for the A40 Mk 2 which does not use the word Farina anywhere. The new price of the car was £450 plus £169 15 shillings and 3 pence purchase tax. (Pre decimalisation of the UK currency there were 20 shillings to the pound and 12 pence in each shilling) |
