It is the T-72 main battle tank built by Uralwagonsawod.

I have to correct myself. I rather think it is the T-90, which is based on the T-72 and T-80.

I think it's a T-72.

Delta Fox wrote I think it's a T-72.

The scenes at the Ukrainian base were filmed in the Czech Republic. Only the Russian and Indian armies have the T-90.

Gag's right. That's not a T-90 (unless the KGB smuggled them into Ukraine & Czechoslovakia).

Uralwagonzavod, no sawod ;)

I just saw it on Wikipedia, I thought that both were correct transcriptions of "Уралвагонзавод". But shouldn't it be Uralvagonzavod rather than Uralwagonzavod?

antp, yeap, you're right. Uralvagonzavod. Russian 'в' is a polish 'w' and i'm studying Russian. Sorry ;)

Either Uralwagonsawod or Uralvagonzavod would be correct, in my opinion. The German version of that Wikipedia article seems to be the only one that says Uralwagonsawod.

Why 1992?

2006-11-04 11:57

It'll be 1973 (first T-72 tanks are used in CCCP army), eventually 1979 (T-72A) or 1985 T-72B.

Today it isn't most dangerous tank in the world.

The tanks were actually on loan from a real arms dealer, who sold them after filming.

Because the scene is set just after the fall of the Soviet Union.

As far as I can remember, the tanks aren't supposed to be new. A corrupt general is flogging off his regiment's hardware.
