 Was it a Daihatsu Charade-version, where the back hood was just the back window with out a frame, like at the Volvo 1800 ES? I don't know, because my knowledge about Japanese cars is not big.

 @ Ingo: No that was an early 80s Daihatsu Cuore in 4-door version (the 2-door version had a 'normal', framed hatch).
