Another person in a Discord thread suggested to me that they're 90% sure it's an Austin 16. Here's an image of the back side of the same car, a second later:![]() But then a person in yet another thread shared this link with me: Link to "www.lotsearch.de" 1936 Austin Light 12/6 Ascot Saloon Registration no. BOM 293 Chassis no. F/28011-15 Engine no. 1FF/16990 I'll use that information to update the photo. Or, well, I would if I could, but I'm not sure if I can anymore. -- Last edit: 2021-09-29 00:26:38 |

The picture could be either a 12/4 or a 12/6, the only difference is the engine type. I went on numbers built, 12/4 is 18915, 12/6 is 7243, but am happy to accept your answer. You can’t tell which engine is fitted by looking at the back, nor can you tell if it’s a 16 by looking at it. To quote from my bible, (S&G) “the 12/4 using the same chassis is a better car”. The British system of annual taxation for cars was based upon the cylinder bore, and number of cylinders, which caused the taxation to rise if either one increased. The car manufacturers tended to offer middle sized cars with a choice of engines in identical bodies, to squeeze out every last possible sale. Also, during the 1930s, there was a fashion for small six cylinder engines, and where manufacturers could, they would offer a six cylinder option. However, this put up the annual tax. -- Last edit: 2021-09-29 09:24:10 |
