![]() AYK 597 - 1934 Le Mans, Riley Ulster Imp 1,087 cc chassis 60-24755, with Dorothy Champney and Kay Petre, finished 13th, apparently the highest placing ever achieved by all-female crew. Dorothy Champney married Victor Riley to become Dorothy Riley. Not sure how different an Ulster Imp was from normal Imp "The term Ulster Imp is generally associated with the competition versions that have a boat-tailed body, but AYK597 was still in almost standard trim. Two other two Imps were also entered at Le Mans that year and were described as “special bodied Imps” and when several more of this model were produced for the Ards TT in the September, then the name Ulster Imp was adopted ..... A total of sixteen Ulster Imps were manufactured by the Riley Competition Department of which nine still survive." from here. Preceding Dorothy Champney footage in a Riley at an English hillclimb - presumably 1933/34 - but too fuzzy to make anything useful ![]() |

I’ll try to find my Shelsley Walsh book. Just looked up at the TV to see the words “Courtney Walsh” but I don’t think he will help. -- Last edit: 2021-06-11 20:20:31 |
