I think it's a CJ-5, but it looks like a 1977 Model to me |

Actually, it's 76-83. The first CJ-5 was introduced in 55 and remained the same through 75. AMC bought Jeep and redesigned the 76. Differences were windshield with went from 59" wide to 55", factory mounted door hinges, factory roll bar, and widshield was angled back as oppossed to perpendicular to the hood in previous years. Several other changes were made as well, but these are the noticeable ones. |

Outlaw, There is a lack of accuracy on your comments but Yes the CJ5 was introduced in '55. This site has many knowledgeable contributors that will gladly answer questions about correct identification, if asked. This is most likely a '72-74 model. Appears to have the longer wheelbase of 1972 on (AMC). The exposed windshield wiper motor is for 1975 or older (to'66?). The higher "JEEP" on the side cowling of before 1975. Based on the details in this photo it can be narrowed down to 1972-74...which is why I had asked "Why 1973?" in an earlier post. |

Cuddos to you 4x4peru. I don't see that in the picture, but it's not the greatest picture. I do not doubt your knowledge though and I stand corrected. |

The lower portion of the drivers side windshield shows a dark shadow. That shadow is the externally mounted wiper motor that ended in '75. Beginning in '76 the wiper motor was internal and can often be seen, or not, in pics with the windshield folded to give clues to those years. The JEEP on the side cowling is a highlighted blur but it is higher on the side like pre 75. In '75 it was moved about 4 inched lower and remained there. Again an obvious clue in narrowing down the years. Plenty of small details in "Jeep" vehicles that to many "all look the same". This site is helpful in sharing the knowledge of those details. |
