Austin FX4 - you can see the Austin badge on the grille.

The number plate DLR 114C looks like a real British plate.

This scene is supposed to be in Hong Kong.

Definitely 1958-1968 Austin FX4 - roof mounted turn indicators.

The same exact Austin FX4 -- or at least one bearing the exact same "DLR 114C" license plate -- is one of two London black cabs which appear in series 2, episode 5 of "Murder, She Wrote" from October 1985, "Sing a Song of Murder". This particular cab picks up Oliver Trumbull at the fictitious "Mayhew Musical Hall". (The registration of the other FX4 is a bit tricky to see but perhaps WUU 700G or MUU 700G?)

The episode is supposed to be set in London, although the backgrounds showing Westminster Palace and St Paul's Cathedral are pretty obviously fake, and the same dozen or so vehicles comprise every street scene save for some stock footage used in establishing shots. So it will actually have been shot on a Hollywood studio backlot.

Presumably, this London cab lived out most or all of its later life in California. And *assuming* the license plate is real and traveled to Hollywood along with the chassis, the C-reg should mean it's a 1965 vehicle.

DLR 114C was genuine London plate, Jan-May 65, but no trace now.

Cool! What tool do you use to search that, out of curiosity?

I've got some detailed plate list books. But this site has most of the data.

Many thanks! Checking that suggests the other cab in the same episode could well have been WUU 700G, as WUU G registrations are listed as being from June 1969 onwards and issued in London.
