This very car once held a world speed record - 173 mph - and was modified with some streamlined bits, including the canopy of a British fighter plane. Presumably these pieces were removed afterwards, as the record was set before this movie was released. The car today is restored to its "land speed" configuration: http://www.xkdata.com/cars/detail/?car=660986 |

Looks like some witchcraft afoot from XKdata link comments - " This XK starts off with wire wheels, changes to disc and then back to wire wheels. In this latter guise it does indeed have two racing filler caps on the same side, denoting two tanks. This is borne out by the fact that when the AA/RAC man takes a wheel from the boot, it comes out of the top level suggesting the second tank is where the wheel would be normally." |

Now I understood why the car spotted the little pre-1951 positions lights instead of built-in larger ones. When the record was taken, the car has no lights at all. When someone returned the car to street form, it was easier to install those small unit in place. But I am afraid to say that there are two different cars in this picture with same plate. Along the pictures we can find two differents fuel caps. Also the hood fixing hooks are located differently. But I'm afraid to say. I am not afraid anymore: there two cars, one has flaps, the other hasn't. The real MDU 524 must be the flapped car. -- Last edit: 2021-03-20 01:19:34 |
