1978 (by the lower grille pattern in the bumper) Fleetwood Brougham (by the B-pillar - but no script on the sail panel?!) with a custom front end assembly incl. raised hood cap, vertical grille mounts and custom hood ornament by Wisco, Dunham, Barris or any of their competitors. With that two-tone paintjob, it might be some Cadillac dealer's special edition - not sure if Cadillac did that pre-1979. |

What is 6CB69? In 1978 the code would be: 6 - caddy B - Fleetwood Brougham 69 - 4 dr sedan http://shopkeysupport.com/sk5com/vin/vin.pdf - page 42 on pdf (on my ipad might be different viewing on a computer). G-54 on the document. |

De Ville and Fleetwood Brougham are model series 6C, B69 is the body style for Fleetwood Brougham - but that was just a suggestion, as we apparently never used chassis codes for these. Feel free to modify! ![]() No. For a more specified answer, I would need to know the circumstances (location, time, culture, religion etc.). For example, here is something I once wrote about white hearses in 1950s/1960s Italy, a largely Christian influenced culture. In the US, hearses that weren't black became more of a thing during the 1960s, probably also influenced by Christian values. When the world witnessed Elvis Presley's funeral cortege in 1977, white hearses had already become a pretty common thing. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with Canadian/ Québécois funeral customs to provide a satisfactory reply, though. |

I see. Thank you. I was using the chassis/VIN code sheet linked above. However, we can use whatever code is best. It might behoove us to use: [6B69] for the Fleetwood Brougham 4 door. [6D69] for the DeVille 4 door. Not sure if coupes exist but then the last 2 digits would change as well. Obviously this changes when the 1981 17 digit VINs are introduced. |

thanks the one i was talking about was in a footage of Owen Hart 's funeral ( held in Calgary, Alberta ) in 1999 that i found earlier today . I'm not used to see a white hearse ( as far as i can remember the ones i saw were either black , dark blue or some shade of grey ) that's why i asked -- Last edit: 2021-03-16 22:23:43 |

That would be D47 for the Coupe deVille. Fleetwood Brougham coupes weren't allowed in 1978. ![]() Yes, pretty common, I'd say. But then again, most people (especially the ones who aren't me ) are not used to see hearses on a regular basis anyway, which is why they tend to find colors other than the ones you mentioned even more special than they actually are. Just had a look and found two promotional pictures by coachbuilders Paul Demers & Sons of Belœil (Québec), who already advertised their 1980 conversions in white. ![]() ![]() |

The code used by the 73-83 Fleetwood 60 Special Brougham/Fleetwood Brougham. 1974 models shown for illustration. It became 6DW69 for the 1984 model year because the 84 rear wheel drive, and 85 front wheel drive models were built alongside each other for several months in 1984. The 85 front wheel drive Fleetwood inherited 6CB69. In 1973 all North American General Motors cars (not trucks) adopted the same five character code: 6: Division C: Fisher body type B: Model line 69: body style and used that code for decades. Some still do; for example the 2021 Corvette is 1YC07 for the coupe, 1YC67 for the convertible. The code can be found, first on the body/fender/cowl plate/tag and since 84 the Service Parts Identification label. -- Last edit: 2021-03-28 06:15:34 |

I hear you. However, the shop support manuals do not have "c" in the chassis code field: http://shopkeysupport.com/sk5com/vin/vin.pdf I believe the C is incorrect here. |
