My first thought was Mk IV Jag, but it isn’t.

The next thought is possibly a Daimler DB18/Lanchester Roadrider, but again I cannot be certain.

Trying to identify cars of this sort from only a rear view is not easy since they all had very similar design objectives.

Viewed the scene again, and there's a glimpse of this saloon in the background that might be it:

New thumb could be Armstrong-Siddeley??

Yes it could.

It is possibly a Siddeley Special Mk2.

The only difficulty is that this stopped production in 1937, but could have acquired a later plate. Also, the version with a boot seems to have been only a four light, the six light being limousines.

I am not convinced.

"The Saloon had started development before Nuffield took over [1938], and ... originally destined to be the flagship saloon in the 'new' Riley range, the 16hp Saloon, like the 12hp was essentially a refreshed Adelphi body fitted to the Nuffield-ised chassis. It was the best seller of the 16hp models, but in peoples hearts it was eclipsed by the re-introduced 16hp Kestrel. It is thought that only around 75-80 16hp Saloons were built." from here.

The example in the dsl reference shows a car with the correct shapes and general layout, but centre hinged doors, despite referring in the text to rear hinged doors to the back seats. Odd.

Perhaps a pre production artist’s impression?
