IMO these pics prove how nothing interesting or important didn't happen (yet) in XXI century in case of body design (style). In 1997 such ca 25 years VW looked already like something from different dimension, today such now ca 25 years old Seat (and every other 90s car) looks much less dated.

It's a bit sad anyway. I think, I'd preffer even domination of egg-shaped cars than SUVs etc. - at least there would be some logic behind that.
