What are these objects in the foreground that look like they were borrowed from a later decade? Scales? Sewing machines? VERY early HP Deskjet printers? ![]() |

Looks like a wringer washer, but not fully sure. |

That’s exactly what they are. Maytag? My great aunt had one made by Wilkins and Mitchell of Darlaston in the Black Country, sold under the brand name “Servis” which was suggested by a shop floor worker whose spelling was a bit suspect. There was a power wringer on it, as she was troubled by arthritis. -- Last edit: 2020-10-29 20:03:31 |

Yeah, that makes perfect sense! Thank you for probably closing a knowledge gap of mine! I may have to add vintage laundry shop equipment to my collection of historical rubbish at some point - for the coolness-factor. ![]() |

https://www.flickr.com/photos/chestermikeuk/albums/72157601117659982/ Link to "www.bidspotter.co.uk" W & M were a big engineering company of the type now sadly gone from U.K. They made many items from huge power presses down to smaller things, I think the washing machines were an attempt (successful!) at diversification. -- Last edit: 2020-10-29 20:29:25 |
