The real Bobby Joe Long did indeed drive a Magnum, although his was a 1979 (some sources call it a 1978, but police photos of the car show 1979 taillights), and it was red with a dark red vinyl top and white interior. The car was instrumental in his capture: Lisa McVey managed to see around her blindfold while riding in the car, and saw the "Magnum" emblem on the dashboard. Since the Magnum was an uncommon car even in the mid-'80s, it made the suspect easy to narrow down. |
