Perhaps the first model year of Mehari should be 1969. I've just read once again an article about the car's history from 2000. So the first photo session with the well known pics at the golf course dates back to 16 may 1968 indeed (12 cars had to exist at this moment - 8 was used for the pics), but the start of the serial production was delayed, due to the general strike in the country and finally the production version had its premiere in fall 1968 - in October. Possibly the cars with horizontal front indicators below the headlights were only protos/pre-serial(???)... |
