Unusual low trailer and full side panelling - something special and/or for low bridges or entries?? Seems to be J Lyxxxx & Co on headboard, but more letters than Lyons?? BRS logo on door??

J LYONS & Co. Ltd. looks right to me.

JL crest/logo

Unusual for Lyons not to use all that advertising space on the trailer. Cannot think what use J Lyons would have for a heavy low-loader trailer (Hands possibly for Commer) GPO telephones had something similar possibly but any connection with Lyons??

Found here in more typical J Lyons livery (for giant swiss rolls perhaps?)...

Would it be a heavily insulated van for ice cream? The other thought was maybe to do with their data processing activity, moving large equipment about?

dsl’s extra character could be the apostrophe.

Yes, heavy bulky equipment for moving or servicing LEO 'data processing' is a good idea.

Nothing found about the van's actual use or any bakery goods or ice cream connection. 'LEO' as a working model was developed between 1949-1951. LYP or LXP 237 registration on the found Swiss Roll artic picture so 1951 if a smallish fleet they would have probably been registered as a single batch? So the ;) 'Roll-Out' ;) of LEO at J.Lyons could be the reason for a large low-loader.

Prior to completing my A levels, I had a job interview with English Electric Leo Marconi, (Stafford and Kidsgrove) but post my exam results wound up with the ICT company in Harrow-on-the Hill rather than Putney. Otherwise I might have known more about what was in the trailer. Fortunate really, as I was not programmer material.
