This scene is supposedly in Tokyo in 1950. As the TV series started in 1972 and this was a very short sequence it might be from a later date. It is very likely that it is a Japanese car. Perhaps a 1955 Datsun 110 or 1957 Datsun 210. But so far I have not seen any pictures showing the rear end. |

Absolutely right! Datsun 110 (1955.1-55.12 860cc 25ps) Later Datsun 860cc model has turnsignal lamp on front fender, so this is 110. Though 1958 Datsun 115&211 has not turnsignal lamp on front fender, but they have two lamp each rear end. This Datsun is taxi cab. In Japan, yellow license plate was for business use from 1951 to 62. Find some resemblance with BMC Mini(had 2-doors more only)...Could be that Eng.Alec Issigonis have took ispiration from that car--seen also relationships thru Nissan and Austin,that sold their A40 and A50 in Japan as Datsun--when projecting its own 1959 Mini???... |
