Doesn't a genuine 1966 GT-350H cost around $180,000? This most be a replica like the one in War of the Worlds.

Wickey, I am not sure how much they went for in 1970. I would assume they have risen in price for the originals. On this website there is an original for sale, asking $235,000! On the same site there is a replica for $34,500. They look exactly the same to me which is the point, I just can't imagine wanting to purchase the original.

That is my point, I believe in 1970 they still were rare but that rare as today :) Therefor I believe this could be an original GT350H

You couldn't be more right, I feel like an idiot now. I must have gotten caught up in re-reading the post for War of the Worlds (the movie looks like it definitely featured a replica). Anyway, this probably is an original. Thanks Ray B., sometimes I don't think as clearly as I should :p

Yes, a nicely restored authentic 350H will sometimes bring around $200K. The one in this movie is a '66 and obviously has had the tires replaced with incorrect whitewalls. The only year with the clear quarter window back then (plexiglass). Also, the black w/gold stripes was only in '66 and for Hertz Rent-a-Car exclusively. In late 1967, My Dad being mgr of a Ford dealership in Ft.Worth TX, made a deal to purchase 6 of these Mustangs from Hertz in Dallas for resale from Hillard Ford in Ft Worth. I was 17 at the time and working at the dealership so I got to drive them all back to Ft Worth. What a treat. 5 were black w/gold stripes and one was dark green w/no top stripes. They all had less than 5000 miles on them. These 6 had automatic transmissions. My Dad got them for $2500 ea. and as I recall he sold each of them for around $3500 off of the used car lot. I do remember that he let me use one until they were all gone. I was getting pd $1.25/hr., not enough for me to buy one of them. A 7th Shelby came to Ft Worth to a small used car lot owned by Jack Record, a friend. I noticed that James Garner drove one of these briefly in the movie "LE MANS". My guess is that "American Gangster" used a replica. I'm sure the one they blew up was.

dinogt350h wrote My father bought a 1966 GT350H in the August of 1966 brand new (6s574) at Hertz rental hub at San Francisco airport. Saw the movie in the winter of 66 with my dad and grandfather in Burlingame Hyatt theater,I was only 4 years old when I saw the movie and I still remember that car being in the movie because we drove from South San Francisco to the theater in that same car. Now here is where it gets weird, They only made 1001. They only made 85 4 speeds ours was a 4 speed, research is still out on how many of them had metal hoods, some historians say as many as 200, ours had a metal hood, most had traction bars ours had over riders making this particular shelby pretty rare on top of the fact they are rare cars to begin with. And I am talking like I don't have the car anymore but I do, my father gave it to me when I was 18 and I have it in my garage downstairs, I am a lucky guy!! My father claims we are the only original owner(black and gold) Shelby GT350H 4 speed owners in the world. Wow true story
