Appropiate as Burlingham were based in Blackpool hence the famous Burlingham 'Seagull' body.

Ribble Motor Services were based in Preston, so with Leyland chassis and Burlingham coachwork they were keeping the money paid by Lancastrians for their fares in the county palatinate. Shame they couldn’t find a diesel well amongst the black pudding mines and the UCP tripe shops.

The bus company serving our area ( Arriva) now runs a large fleet of Turkish buses ( Temsa).

My well travelled marine engineer friend reckons we are not far off a third world nation with almost anything engineered now imported !

Try coming to Staffs. From the collection of barely roadworthy rolling junk we have here, you would be sure it had already happened.

I was out with the dogs the other day, and a bus went past, hitting a nearby pothole. (There are many of those, I took out two tyres on my last Mercédès, this one has 19” wheels so I am VERY careful.) The noise of rattling metal to metal contact the suspension of the bus emitted when it hit the pothole made me fear for the state of the pivot bushes.

I recently picked up a nail in the offside front tyre. While the car was parked the pressure reduced to the extent that the dashboard and audible warnings went off, and the car has runflats so I had no option but to drive round to the agent’s garage. Apparently the policy is that all punctured runflats are replaced no matter what. £250! Expensive nail, but I had insurance so I got most of it back.
