This is one of these very special conversions, class "if you know the car, you know the car". I checked most of my libraries and it appears like I can't identify it. It's a special hearse for children and virgins (but presumably operated by adults - you catch my drift?) - a type of funeral vehicle that was a lot more common in the past, but meanwhile has vanished almost completely due to the thankfully much lower rate of children's deaths over the decades (as much as virgins have pretty much disappeared nowadays... except maybe a few that spend their time sitting on the computer, identifying cars in movies).

I'm expecting a rather small car underneath, something like a Fiat 500 Giardiniera and I'm pretty sure I know the coachbuilder - but can't tell which one it was. The coachwork looks to be done without sideglass and rear door, so the hearse is mainly used for funeral processions rather than other transports of the deceased.

Fiat 500 Camioncino based hearse I think. Camioncini were built by Francis Lombardi, Moretti and also Giannini (and for sure others..).

No, an early form of the roof carrier. Back then people were still nervous about putting it openly on the roof of their car, so they put it in the trunk. Made of wood for durability (how fragile are the modern plastic ones!) and with lots of carry handles since you'll likely pack heavily when going on vacation.

...from afar, it looks like the ice cream truck :lol:

more seriously : may be it's a FIAT 600 multipla hearse -> https://www.fiatmultiplaregistry.com/variations-on-a-theme
