Oh... that's one of those extra-wicked convertible conversions, type "halfhearted". There were loads of suppliers of these through the 1990s and they would cut every compact car that wasn't fast enough to escape. I have seen that sort of disturbing convertible top before, but I can't remember who did that and which chassis they used. |

Looks very small next to the SAAB, maybe something in the neighbourhood of a Daihatsu Cuore/Mira or Suzuki Alto? |

Or one of those French microcars with a washing machine motor so that 16 year olds could drive them at 20 mph??? |

Daihatsu Cuore is a good shout: https://www.flickr.com/photos/timvanessen/42238167024 |

Now that it is nearly over, I hope that you all had a very good Staffordshire Day. |

Yeah... I even thought of the Cuore, but dismissed the idea before checking. There is a Daihatsu forum and user GreenKawa describes his convertible (coachbuilder still unknown), as follows "Ich habe zwei Softtops dabei, eines mit Fenster und einer Fensterloss mit ein coupé Form (sic!)." = "I have two soft tops, one with windows and a windowless one in a coupe shape." It's also seen in the last picture. Mmh? Edit: OMG, I completely forgot Staffordshire Day this year! But same back at you! Edit 2: There were two German companies offering these conversions: Löwer apparently did the older ones, the L201 models could be converted with a kit by POP-Automobile, possibly of Mannheim. I think that's what we see here. -- Last edit: 2020-05-01 23:09:49 |
