It's an Hillman Minx. By the two-tone paint scheme and chrome trim, I would say it's a 1956 Phase VIIIA. |

It's a Minx Mk VIII, NOT a Mk VIIIA. MkVIIIA was designated to a Commer Express van with or without windows, based on the Mark body, with a 1500 cc low compression engine. It was produced 1958 - 1960, & had a radiator grille based on the Minx Ser.1, however the grille surround was a different shape. Rootes also fitted a "filler piece" of painted steel between the grille surround & the bonnet lip. The model following was designated a Mk. VIIIB, which had a 1600 cc low compression engine, & produced 1961 - 1962, overlapping the COE Commer 1500 van, with the same grille etc as the Mk. VIIIA. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. |

Rootes Group and Hillman Minx sources commonly list the following... Phase VIII was the Saloon for 1955 only, plus the Convertible and Californian models from 1955 and 1956 onwards. The Phase VIIIa (1956) was applied to the Minx Saloon, advertised as the 'Gay Look' Minx, with two-tone paint and extended chrome trim. With all due respect do you have you any sources that support your assertions rootesfan? |
