FYI - I purchased a Laser 917 in the fall of 1977 from Elite Enterprises in Cokato, MN. This was shortly after (Gerry Knapp, owner) had received an order from Disney Studios for two (2) completely built and road-ready Laser 917s. He shipped them to Monte Carlo, France. He told me that after they arrived, Disney began initial shooting of some of the race scenes. But the red metal-flake paint was sparkling in the bright Monte Carlo sun and was very distracting. So Disney had them repainted in a non-metal-flake red. And yes, I agree - I saw the movie (Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo) and the driver of the Laser 917 was not very competent. There are many instances where he seems to have trouble with over-steer on the hair-pin curves.
