Popular 103E. 1) Bumper painted not chromed. 2) Boot lid opened by coach key, not chrome plated lockable handle. 3) Painted hubcaps, Anglia would have had chromed badges in centre. 4) Small headlamps. All this applies to the car as it came off the production line. An E494A Anglia in a scrapyard, a couple of quid and about an hour’s work and your Popular became an 1172cc Anglia. Mine, (MDA378) was clouted from behind by a lunatic in a brand new Hillman Imp, shuffling it forward into a 100E so it was bent at both ends. His insurance company wrote my car off, sending me a cheque for £55. I bought the wreckage back for £10, rebuilt the car and eventually sold it for £35. The Imp had to go on a trailer, I drove my Popular home, with a few bits hanging off. You could do this sort of thing in 1966. -- Last edit: 2020-04-21 19:07:17 |

I think there was some Amsterdam assembly - there was a good page on what was built there, but I can't find it now. However this 1949 photo probably confirms the previous Anglia and Prefect builds. |
