An enclosed fire engine in the 1930s this type was a limousine similar here /vehicle_959002-Leyland-Tigress-FT-1937.html Leyland likely, followed by Albion, Dennis or whatever. Potentially as 1954 Dennis F8 FHL 690 for the body, and all visible details appear to match remarkably well. A more recent fire appliance than I was expecting. Unfortunately the registration number in the movie is covered so even a partial match is not possible. Possibly Dennis F8 'PPE 280'? Link to "s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com" From /vehicle.php?id=1356094#Comment2880016 another Surrey Fire Brigade vehicle... The comments in the Comet's link below also give a possible clue to the identity of the this fire engine as Mitcham stationed Surrey Fire Brigade's 'Rolls Dennis'. |

Tracked down the Merton Dennis F8 / F12 picture and note the blurb says modified they could do 120mph! https://photoarchive.merton.gov.uk/collections/public-services/fire-service/51031 Not as far from the truth as it sounds though , attending the 1974 Flixborough chemical works explosion a Dennis with the Rolls Royce B80 engine was clocked at just under 100mph on the motorway by a following traffic police car! -- Last edit: 2021-02-03 12:04:36 |
