cant find reference to the 6x6 version being GAZ made..as far as i know, these 6x6 versions were introduced in 1946 on uprated ZIS 151 chassis with modified engine ,from a ZIL..the small 4x4 versions.... (the BTR 40 series), were on GAZ chassis though..in the 6x6 BTR range the following are represented....BTR 152V3 (with winch,and open rear like the WW2 US half track)...BTR 152V1, same as 152V3 but with external air lines to wheel hubs (like a WW2 DUKW)...BTR 152U was fully enclosed high top command post variant..BTR 152K had overhead armour (like the Czech OT halftrack)...in all cases they are just listed as BTR, neither Zil or Zis, but in reference literature ive seen them only with Zis as manufacturer. |

further to the above info..only ZIL and ZIS made these armoured cars...the ZIS version has truck type wheels and tyres as in the above pic...the ZIL version has fatter, larger tyres..thats a way to tell a ZIL from the identical ZIS version, without opening the bonnet..but definately no GAZ as manufacturer for this body type. |

ZiS (Zavod Imeni Stalina) was renamed ZiL (Zavod Imeni Likhacheva) after Khrushchev denounced the Stalin personality cult in 1956, so the ZiL 152 is a later model. They can't have been in production at the same time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZiL -- Last edit: 2007-10-30 01:15:55 |
