One of those CVR-type vehicles, looks like FV 103 Spartan? -- Last edit: 2020-01-13 02:10:14 |

Correctly CVR-(T). Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked). All vehicles of this type in possession of the Queen at the time (early 2000s iirc) were re-engined from petrol Jaguar J-60 power to Cummins diesels, by incorporation of kits designed and supplied by Alvis to the Army Base Repair Organisation, at Donnington, Telford, who did the work of fitting and testing. The kits were supplied shrink wrapped, after some initial hiccups the programme ran smoothly and the converted vehicles performed well, and still do. A similar exercise was carried out on the FV430 Series vehicles to replace the complex Rolls-Royce K-60 multi-fuel engines with the Cummins diesel, Alvis co-operating with ABRO again, this time at the Bovington workshops, but also involving a transmission and steering system change which made the conversion more involved. Again successful, it gave a new lease of life to the ancient design, effectively modernising the almost 50 year-old hull to current standards. CVR-(W), Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Wheeled), otherwise the Fox family of vehicles, was out of service by this time so remained petrol powered with the F-60 engine. -- Last edit: 2020-01-13 10:38:37 |
