1970-73 (as with the Firebird) was the best period for the 2nd generation Camaro, with the most power, the cleanest lines, and the least amount of plastic. This is an awesome example, but the best shot of the car in the film is when the Camaro's drivers are double-crossed at the toll-gate and they are forced to pull into the side - you are given a beautiful side profile shot of the car when it slides its rear end into the lay-by - the car looks really clean and the flip-tail spoiler gives the Camaro an extra bit of edge. Another scene is when one of the drivers tries to take a leak into a bottle when driving while his passenger is asleep. Obviously, this is not a pleasant scene, but, if I can recall, there are some gorgeous first person shots of the road ahead as the car travels at high speed around twisting bends - the sound of the Camaro is also immense, particularly in this scene. |

Does anyone have any information about what eventually happened to this Camaro? Does anyone know how Chuck Bail came about putting the car in the film, whether there were multiple Camaros used and what happened to them? |

A little infomation you may already know, 'When filming in Arizona the Camaro blew its motor, so Bail rented two Camaros, and used the motors from those in the film car until its original motor was ready to go back in.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gumball_Rally |

There had to have been more than one, since interior shots at different points show both an automatic shifter and a 1970-1971 Hurst manual shifter. |

In some scenes it has a blue sun visor in windscreen and sometimes it`s missing. |

Not sure how we ended up with "1972" as the year, has the 1970-71 grille and lowback seats, so I would say 1970 |
