I'm guilty of that. According to my info there was only one model line in 1949: Series 9CM. |

It's OK with me not to use the Series-number. Mercury started only in 1953 with two model ranges. Or we could give these Series numbers: 1939 Series 99A 1940 Series 09A 1941 Series 19A 1942 Series 29A 1946 Series 69M 1947 Series 79M 1948 Series 89M 1949 Series 9CM 1950 Series 0CM 1951 Series 1CM 1952 Series 2M |

I do not think that using these series codes as model name is really good. I think that it is better to either not have model name, or use just "Convertible", "Sedan", etc. as it was sometimes done with old cars. I'd combine the code with the other one, i.e. [9CM-76] as it was done for others, or just put "Series 9CM" in extra info. -- Last edit: 2007-10-18 23:08:45 |

To me, it's confusing (and absurd) to use codes as Series 9CM, which are only a code for the model year. In this site the model year comes in clear, not in code number. Let's stay that way. The other code, the model code, here 76 for convertible, can often be helpful, as Pilou uses them for instance, to distinguish body styles. |
