Neither of my Capris, nor my Viva, nor the Hunters, nor my Cortina MkV, nor the Granada, nor my Mirafiori gave noticeably square light beams. My 1960 VW, and my 1954 Ford Popular, both 6 volt, gave no noticeable light at all. |

If you had the Bilux-junk as headlights, 12 volts didn't help anything. When I drove my NSU 1200 C at very bad weather on a three-lane Autobahn, I used to drive on the middle lane close besides a car on the right lane with appropriate lights |

The VW had the oval lights that were sort of faired into the wings, which were to say the least, weak. It’s now a very long time ago, but I think there were some 6 volt quartz iodine bulbs that helped a bit. Carello?? The lights on the Popular were about as bright as numberplate lights, and it had a rather poor dynamo. I bought a Butler driving light, but it didn’t really help. Fortunately the car was not fast enough to get you into trouble, having 30bhp and a three speed gearbox. I used to commute up the M1 every other week, North London to Staffordshire, it meant keeping in the slow lane and chewing the diesel fumes. -- Last edit: 2019-12-01 00:00:14 |
