I’m thinking of changing my nickname to Autolycus. This unconsidered trifle could be a Princess 3-litre if built before May 1960, a Vanden Plas Princess 3-litre if built between then and autumn 1961, and a Vanden Plas Princess 3-litre MkII if constructed between then and summer 1964. The Mk II is only distinguishable from its immediate predecessor by a back view, noting the position of the rear overriders. It is not a 4-litre R, which did not have tail fins. |

1959-61. 4,719 cars built less than 11 still exist on the road or SORN. 1961-64. 7,984 cars built more than 34 still exist on the road or SORN. MK.II more likely |

That’s some rate of attrition. I suppose it’s the usual thing with luxobarge versions of large but low rent cars, by the 3rd or 4th owner the thing has become too expensive to run and to maintain, and along comes the next petrol price hike, or the next annual test, and away it goes to be turned into sardine tins. Did the same attrition apply to the Zodiacs and Super Snipes? |

Big Farinas were rustworm favourites. They were also banger racer favourites, who particularly liked smashing up the posh versions such as VdPs. Plus many 3-litre BMC fodder were sacrificed to provide engines for big Healey rebuilds. |

But more recently there's been a craze for retro bangers, with bonus points for rarity and/or exoticness.
