No, big mind change after seeing thumbs. MGSA Tourer by Charlesworth now looks favoured. Have found picture of one on Hemmings that has straight front bumper, and this car looks big. Link to "www.hemmings.com" BTW, the MG registration series ran from 1930 to 1949 and MG 8001 to 9999 were reserved for the War Office, so dating by number plate is less accurate than normal. -- Last edit: 2019-04-13 10:02:29 |

Further slightly less traumatic change of mind. Count the doors. The Charlesworth body has four, this car has two, large, rear hinged doors with three hinges to cope with the weight. The article from Hemmings suggests that this would be a Tickford dhc built by Salmons. If a Tickford, the bonnet louvres mean 1938+ according to comment here. Agree very Tickfordish, but the exposed rear spare is an anomaly as mentioned, and I'm not sure if the hood matches (but it looks bedraggled enough here to make it a fairly useless point). |

Spare wheel mounted on boot lid, or what? Other examples easily found. Since these coachbuilt drophead coupés are (were) built to customer requirements, variations in design are expected, and probably obligatory. In 1949 the subject car, and certainly its hood, would be suffering from the depredations of several years of wartime shortages, so would hardly present the pristine appearance encountered these days.
