What's WL-41? |
|
◊ 2007-08-17 22:13 |
According my info [WL-41] is the chassis code for the Dodge Monaco sedan (the upmarket Brougham version would have been [WH-41], etc.). |

Where did you get this info from? Also, is it the code for just the police package Monaco, or for every version? |

I found it in the catalogue "50 years of American Automobiles 1939-1989" by the auto editors of Consumer Guide, Publications International, Ltd. ISBN: 0-88176-592-9. I found this big book (more than 700 pages with details and pictures) on a fleemarket and payed € 2,- for it(less than $ 3,-...). [WL-41] is the code for the standard version of the Monaco, there seems to be no special code for the Police-version. |

I see. Good find. Only thing is, this is the police version of the Monaco (notice the fleet wheels). So this is the incorrect code for the car, right? |

?? I'm not sure there was a proper code for the Police cars. These are the codes for 1977 Dodge Monaco in my book: [WL-47] sdn 4d [WL-23] htp cpe [WS-23] Special htp cpe [WL-45] wgn 4d 2S V8 [WL-46] wgn 4d 3S V8 [WH-41] Brougham sdn 4d [WH-23] Brougham htp cpe [WH-45] Crestwood wgn 4d 2S V8 [WH-46] Crestwood wgn 4d 3S V8 I guess the Police version was just the basic model with some changes... |

Wouldn't it be better to only use the WL/WS/WH codes? I guess that in most of the cases the full code will not guessable anyway (like Toyota Land Cruiser's xJnn code) -- Last edit: 2007-08-17 23:33:35 |

OK for me. In most cases that's difficult enough... I even doubt if it is really necessary to use this chassis-field. I just put in these codes when I know them because of this field, but there is no big use for them, I guess. |

This is just a suggestion from me, but I think that it might be better to use the chassis code only for non-police Monacos. As you said before DynaMike, you're not sure what the Chassis code for the police-package Monaco is, so maybe you can just include it when identifying civilian Monacos. It's just a suggestion, of course, you guys can do as you prefer ![]() |

Maybe the code is the same for police version, especially if we restrict it to the two first letters. |
|

Maybe, but maybe not. Like I said before, it's your call antp ![]() |

I don't think they had those as cop cars in 1989 |

Recycled footage from the first movie? |
|
◊ 2007-12-08 11:07 |
No, but it was probably cheaper (as the car was flattened by the Statue of Liberty) |

oh yea. That was funny! ![]() |

There is a code.Actually, two of them?? Mopar Police Pkgs at the time were called "A-38" (Like P-71 is the current 'Vic or 9C1 is the Chevy) and I -think- the VIN derivative might be "WK41" (My '71 Fury I "Trooper Car" that I had many, many years ago was a "PK41") |

This is actually a miniature wax model. According to the site First Church of Dan Aykroyd, anyway, which has very extensive behind-the-scenes info for Ghostbusters 2. I guess it's a testament to how well done it is that nobody has caught that it's not a full-size car. -- Last edit: 2008-05-02 07:53:21 |

Okay, my mistake, it actually is a real car - up until it's squashed of course. I had remembered the article incorrectly. The article: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/2976/ghostrevisited4.html -- Last edit: 2008-05-02 08:05:41 |

To clear up the confusion, A full size police car was used for the movie. Then a 1/24th scale model of the same car was used to make it look as though it about to get mashed. Special effects for on-camera shots did the rest. |
