Small wheels and thin rear lights, no sidemarkers. My guess is 1966-ish 250 SE, but let's wait for an expert to arrive. |

I'm not an expert, but I'll make a try anyway. I'm not sure that the rear lights were different in size: 220 SE https://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/jpg/201810/1963-mercedes-benz-12.jpg 250 SE Link to "www.tk-pro.de" 280 SE Link to "www.car-revs-daily.com" What is for sure is that it has the smaller 13" wheels with perforated chromed wheel embellishers. Those were fitted as standard on the 220 SE [W 111] but could be ordered as optional extra at least on the 250 SE [W 108] if the car had to be loaded more heavily. Apparently the Swedish Police had some of those. The safest suggestion would be a Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Convertible [W 111] as nothing is arguing otherwise. |

If the speedometer housing is made of burl wood it is 220 SE or early 250 SE Link to "i.pinimg.com" if covered with leather it would be a later 250 SE for sure, but the dashboard here seems to be without upholstery. Another detail to be found on both; 220 SE and 250 SE is the white bakelit steering wheel. Link to "cdn.shopify.com" The forward mirror position could be the key to distinguish from each other, as 250 SE seems to have it rather on the door, so i would agree with zodiac. |

@andrepa: - Up until now I have belived that all [W 111] and [W 112] Coupés and Convertibles had wood around the speedometer housing, and that more exclusive wood were used on the [W 112], but that could also be ordered on the [W 111] if you paid for optional extra. I now understand that the 1968+ models had vinyl on the housing, apart from the [W 112] which still had wood. The reason why I have lived in this misunderstanding is that my earliest memory of those coupés is that a friend of mine, which still has a 1966 250 SE/C, in around 1988 came to visit my dad, who used to restore old furnitures but now is retired, to ask about how to varnish the wood around the speedometer housing as the varnish had detoriated during the years because of the sun. My friend has talked a lot about different choices of wood on the facia on those models, which lead me to believe that all [W 111] coupés and convertibles had it. I now understand that is not true. - The white steering wheel was a no cost optional extra and was available all years. |
