Visa II? |
◊ 2019-01-23 14:15 |
We need a bit of cleaning on the Visa collection to sort out different naming systems - both Visa/Visa II and Visa Serie 1/Serie 2 are running in parallel, and then lots of Visas to process within whichever system is chosen. And it probably needs someone who knows them as there's a confusing mountain of Visa 11 among them, which is a 1.1 engine?? |

This is still good - http://visavision.info/models.htm even if not perfect - /vehicle.php?id=579792 (929V6 knew them well it seems) It's OK, that we have 2nd series Visas from period 1981-88 listed as "Visas II" and just "Visas", IF they are listed this way with proper years (1981-82 "Visa II", 1983-88 witohut II). 1x is ca 1.x engine - yes. I think the one in series can be 11 RE, by the wheels, side strip and seems there is rear spoiler too, but nothing of that is for me enough well visible. |

I don't think I'm brave enough ..... |

I've just noticed that what can be additionaly confusing, is that some Visas (not many) have "Serie 1" and "Serie 2" in mk field. It is more easy to remove this info. than to add mks/series to all other Visas, but maybe this information would be somehow useful(?). On the other hand to keep order, we would need to have something like "Visa II Série 2", what IMO looks really bad. -- Last edit: 2019-01-23 17:37:30 |

^ That's what I meant about parallel systems. My feeling is that "Visa II" is the problem as it was only a briefly used name (81-82) with no obvious differences after the "II" part of the name was dropped. "Serie 1" (until 81 facelift) and "Serie 2" (81 facelift onwards) seems much more sensible and useable in practice as most of the body changes are usually fairly clear. So remove all Visa II references?? And replace with an easy-to-use "Serie 1"/"Serie 2" system?? Even worse would be Visa II 11 |

Visa II would be correct for the MY 1982-1983, made (in calendar years) 1981-1983. They were even badged as Visa II (VISA II, actually) http://www.citroenet.org.uk/passenger-cars/psa/visa/visa11.html Model years 1984+ (late calendar year 1983) used the new 10-11-14-17 system, so you wouldn't find a Visa II 11 anyway If the styling changes of 1982+ would be listed as Série 2, it would be Série 2 until the end. BTW, we have the similar situation for the handful of CX's listed as CX 25 GTI/TRD Turbo 2 Série 2, with no complaints so far |

tore-40 - why such model years? Visa II was introduced in 1st months of 1981 and was considered as "model year 1981" - Citroen printed Visa II brochures tagged "Annee-modele 1981". This way both, old and new Visas can be from 1981 MY. In brochure printed for 1983 it is already named just "Visa". "II" was removed before naming change in trim levels took place - that's why there are eg. 1983 Visas (non II) Super E. Super E was replaced with MY 1984 by trim level 11 RE. Yes, there was "II" on badge (in 1981-82) and it is what can makes changes proposed by dsl a little controversial. We maybe can have "I" and "II" in mk field, but I bet mk field is linked to car brand (to Citroen) and not to model name and this way all Citroens would start to be displayed with I, II, III... what also isn't correct. -- Last edit: 2019-01-23 21:43:16 |

With your bruchure in mind, 1981 could be either, yes. Your 1983 brochure makes things interesting, indeed. Anyway, my point was, the later engine size designation should not interfere with any (official) Visa II models. So both II and Série 2 could be used alongside in the listings, for the years in question. IMO. |

Fair enough - there's enough of you who know what you're doing and how to do it so I'll quietly close the door and run away. |

Optimist So: 1979-81 "Visa" mk = Série 1 1981-82 "Visa II" mk = empty 1983-88 "Visa" mk = Série 2 ? Not sure if it will help in anything, but I'm not against it. |
◊ 2019-01-24 16:18 |
Or that way? 1979-81 "Visa" mk = Série 1 1981-82 "Visa" II mk = Série 2 1983-88 "Visa" mk = Série 2 |

^ That was my intention. But I'm an optimist. BTW, shouldn't 1983 also be included as Visa II ? |

We are keeping all Xantias together still, with no Série recognition (although Xantia II wasn't simply facelift, PSA engineers performed many structural chassis & body changes as well). And here we're talking about short-lived 'marketing gymnick' on Visa Serie 2 posters & ads. -- Last edit: 2019-01-24 16:47:22 |

Not only in promo materials, this "II" was placed also on Visa II badge - the car was named like that. For/in 1983 MY "II" was removed from the badge 1982 II: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C447332# 1982 without II (must be already 1983 MY, both this car and II above are from the same market): https://www.flickr.com/photos/38389354@N07/8629457238 1983 MY Super E already without II: https://www.flickr.com/photos/47381765@N04/8484155450/ As I already wrote before, Super E without "II" had to exist only in 1983 MY as for 1984 MY new trim levels were introduced. |
