Ambulances and Hearses always used the extended chassis. The long-wheelbase limousine was rather a by-product, as numbers built wouldn't have justified it's existence. The chassis code was 'W' for all '123'. Using different letters for different body types only came into use in the 1990s. The term 'Lang' (=long) for the lwb limousine was never official. In the beginning those vehicles were named e.g. "300D 7-8 Sitze", later "300D langer Radstand". |
